More SH ponderings

Okay, so far I'm okay with Chiaki and Hatori--not head over heels, but okay with them. I ordered the 'manga' for them, only to belatedly realize they're novels XD; Yaaaaay Japanese ability being put to the test >_> I read a summary of their drama CDs though, and it sounds really different from what we saw in the anime though, wtf XD Someone mentioned that the part where Chiaki wakes up and Hatori is kissing him subsequently leads to them having sex, Chiaki feeling like he's been used as a body substitute for Yuu, and not speaking to Hatori for a week until he gets invited to the fireworks festival.

Uuuh, that's so not what I got from the anime--but then, the anime was really confusing. Chiaki wakes up and Hatori's kissing him...and then the next thing is he just wakes up in bed with a cold, wonders why Hatori did it (just wonders), and then gets invited to the fireworks festival. wtf? idgi...

Guess we'll see what happens XD; In related news, I was rewatching some eps of Junjou Romantica and wondered a few things: okay, so--Usagi-san is contracted with Marukawa in JR, but Onodera in SH...so, did SH come BEFORE JR? As in Usagi-san moved to Marukawa after working at Onodera? Confused!

I did notice this though, in the final episode XD

Yeah, that's probably what will happen. I'm not really holding out much hope for those episodes, though if the love triangle is handled well it might make things interesting, at least. I wonder what the third couple is like~

(And for the rest of this I'm going to have to put a disclaimer and say that I watched both seasons of JR over the course of one night each, which means my memory might be a little fuzzy, or at least a little selective, for the episodes I watched way after I should have been asleep ;))

Ahh. See, I didn't consider Hiro to be a tsundere (you italicized it so I felt like I had to too :P) until I read it in a character description for him. I just thought of him as grumpy, and for whatever weird reason I'm a total sucker for grumpy characters ♥ And...maybe I was just too enamored with him to notice, or maybe I really am forgetting a lot, but I didn't think he was such a jerk to Nowaki, overall. Or at least, when he was he had a reason for it. I just got the feeling with those two that we were only seeing little snippets of their relationship, you know? They were together for 6 years, and the times we see them are all when Hiro is going through a rough patch -- when he's getting over Usagi-san, when he's emotionally exhausted from Nowaki running off all the time and being gone so long, and then when he's feeling insecure about their relationship because Nowaki's acting weird and sleeping half-naked with random guys. I do agree that it seemed like Hiro didn't appreciate Nowaki as much as he should, or rather that he didn't show that appreciation, but I guess I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he does show it in his own way, even if we didn't get to see those parts. The fact that he was so protective of those letters after finding them was really telling, I thought.

Since I didn't know anything about the fandom I didn't realize they were the general favorite couple, but they were definitely mine. Hiro was very quickly my favorite character overall, and I felt like they were the most realistic, real couple. They had some major communication issues, but things never got to the point of (completely) ridiculous before they would break down and actually talk to each other. (And I don't know what "ego" had to do with anything; to me they both just seemed oddly insecure.) They were also, I felt, the most balanced couple, and that is a major thing for me. I felt like they were each their own person before becoming involved, and were still their own person even after being together for so long. They enhanced each other's lives, rather than completely consuming them. Or something. It's hard to explain without sounding silly :P Maybe I should watch the episodes again to get a better idea of what I mean. Or read the manga/novels/whatever.

Of course, one of the reasons I liked them so much might just have been the contrast with the main couple -- here, no one was forcing themselves on anyone, and no one was preventing anyone from having a life outside the relationship :P

(actually your memory is probably better than mine as I haven't rewatched any Egoist since it first aired last year XDD)

And you do have a point--they've been together the longest (though apparently in the manga Misaki's finishing college now, so he and Usagi-san have been together ~4ish years) and have the most normal relationship XD And we only get to see bits and slices of it.

I guess I just also don't like their drama (as in, the drama that THEY experience. I'm fine with the other couples' stories) with misunderstandings and whatnot. Maybe I just can't put my finger on any one thing that makes me not like them, but I don't >_<;; They hardly lack supporters, though, so I don't feel so bad XD;

And I quite like the main couple--so I suppose it's just "if you like one, chances are you don't like the other"? XD

Well, I can definitely understand not liking someone/something and not being entirely sure why :) And I do agree that their story wasn't particularly exciting, I guess because it was the most "normal." But I thought they were adorable, so I didn't mind <3

Haha, maybe. I never could decide how I felt about Misaki and Usagi-san. There were a lot of things about that relationship I had an issue with, but it got a little better by the end, at least.

At any rate, minus the latest episode, so far I'm definitely liking SH better than JR overall. Onodera is awesome, and although Takano's being a little pushy I suppose he is still trying to make a point...I just hope he'll eventually realize there are other ways to get that point across. And I love that it's set at a publishing company~

I do definitely like SH over JR, enough that I went and bought all the volumes like I mentioned in a previous post and read them in one sitting XD

Takano's very pushy, but rather than finding it distasteful, I mostly find it...sad. That he wants the old Ritsu that he's been unwaveringly missing for 10 years back so bad, he'd do most anything to try and get that point across. And I love when a couple who are at odds have these moments where they see perfectly eye to eye and even if it's just for a little bit of time really appreciate each other and "love" one another--and Onodera and Takano definitely have some of those :3

Plus Yukina and Kisa are like...awesome XD Kisa is the best uke I've ever seen in a BL show, I think, and I'm kinda depressed they'll probably get the least time in the show just because they've got the least material XD;;

And then of course, like you said, the manga publishing company setting in itself is really interesting :33333 Ngh, is it Friday yet?!

Aww, when you think of it that way it is sad :( I wasn't counting his pushiness against him yet anyway, but in that context it is more understandable. It's just that when Takano said he was going to make Onodera fall in love with him again, I was hoping for something a little more subtle and...calculated, maybe, than just kissing him at every opportune moment. Buuut all we (as in those of us who haven't read ahead ;)) know of Takano so far is from Onodera's point of view, so there are probably other things going on.

I'm still very new to BL anime so I'll have to take your word on that ;) I am looking forward to them though, especially now that couple #2 have been a bit disappointing so far :(

Well, subtle and calculated are definitely not in Takano's vocabulary XD But to be fair, he DOES do a few stupidly sweet things that just bowl Ritsu right over, leading to those moments I mentioned loving XD A few more of those and Ritsu'll start seeing the light and remembering those fluttery feelings he used to have for his sempai :3

When you say new to BL anime--you mean like SH and JR are the first ones? Cause I can definitely recc some others!

I didn't know that at the time! Either way they're fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to seeing how things progress~

Well, I watched Gravitation back in college, but other than that it's just been those two. Feel free to share those recs!

Mmm you definitely should find and watch Gakuen Heaven--it's short at 12 eps, but that's perfect for getting a nice series in. It was originally based on a really porny harem BL game, but the series pairs everyone off very nicely (and amazingly enough, there are no distasteful couples--mostly because there's no rape or tsundere ukes XD). It has a happy ending, too, which is more than can be said for a lot of BL--and the animation is really nice too! Definitely one of my all-time faves :3

Have you watched/heard of Loveless? Also beautiful art, albeit you have to be okay with wise-beyond-his-years kid and timeless being pairings XD Still, theirs is a really beautiful story too :3
