As promised, I have not set the music for this post to Ding Dong the Witch is Dead, but imagine, if you will, a swelling orchestra in the background playing something akin to Handel's hallelujah chorus.

*ahem*

So, Dream Live 6th has ended. A week or so ago, actually. I'm a little late 8D;; 4th cast sang its medley of swan songs, 5th cast was passed the racket (literally o_O), it was a beautiful thing.

Thank god it's over. About this time, one year ago, I was sitting in Kobe World Kinen Hall, super excited and sitting in a damn good spot, on the 12th row in the arena in a seat I'd jumped on at the last minute in an AU auction online. My very first TeniMyu ever!! And even better: A DREAM LIVE! Dream Live 5th, where despite my having little interest in Higa, Rikkai, or Rokkaku, I could consoly myself with HYOUTEI and FUDOUMINE and ST. RUDOLPH! (Yamabuki was in there somewhere I'm sure...)

And despite my being familiar with zero of the Seigaku cast members (except for Yanagishita, who I'd heard was going to be doing a double-Kaidoh with his successor, Hirata), I was EXCITED. This excitement built to fever proportions when the ichinen trio stomped onto the stage--I cared not that they weren't Ishibashi/Hotta/Toyonaga (eesh, that reads like a 3some fic...), they were the Ichinen Trio!! Always good for a laugh, no matter the generation, and definitely a-ok in my book. They weren't 1st gen, but that didn't matter to me because HOLYSHITIWASATTENIMYU.

It was a damn shame the rest of the show couldn't live up to the opening.

I was barely given a chance to familiarize myself with the main team, instead having my ear screamed off by the Biggest Rikkai Fangirl Ever next to me, and the bits I did get...disappointed me to the point of tears. (bonus, read the whole harrowing experience here 8D;;;;)

I know I've got no right to complain about them "redoing" First Cast songs -- it's a musical, and especially in a Dream Live they're going to be pulling from every myu they can get their hands on to bring back that fun spirit from Lives and Myus before, and I completely respect that...so long as the casts respect it. If you fuck up a song I love? I'm going to not like you much (read: at all). Is it the cast's fault they've fucked up the song? Usually, no (unless they just suck at singing; but lately that's not been a problem XD).

But they're the only ones I can get mad at, the only ones I can rant about and take out my frustration on. This is why I "hate" 4th cast. "They" ruined my very first TeniMyu, and now all my bad memories of it are associated with "them".

Some of you might think I'm just such a whore for 5th cast because zomg Tsujimoto was in a *pnish* show and that just makes him a GOD BY DEFAULT (which, well, it does. But that's another matter 8D). It's not. He just happened to come along at the perfect time, when I was angry at TeniMyu, at Ueshima, at 4th cast for giving me a crappy experience at a show I'd dreamed of seeing live for years. I needed something to latch onto to help restore my faith, and this link in Tsujimoto that almost recalled the days of 1st Cast was...really welcome.

I'm not ashamed to admit I judge a Seigaku cast solely on their Golden Pair actors.

Oishi and Eiji are pretty much the reason I love Seigaku so much, and if you can't pull them off on stage, then I have little time for you or your castmates, I'm sorry. It's all but impossible for me to enjoy watching actors butcher characters I love, so I typically won't. As superficial as it is, I found neither Toyoda nor Hamao to be attractive in their roles (Hamao was cute, but...I dunno. Not for me), though admittedly Oishi is a hard character to make sexy in real life (yet somehow Tuti, TakiYuki, and Tsujimoto have done it! Quelle surprise :P As another in a long line of Oishis with the initials T-Y, Toyoda should've had this IN THE BAG.) and Hamao was following up on SETOMARU. They're nice-looking in RL, but did nothing for me as their characters. I shouldn't have to wince whenever my OTP among OTPs comes on stage.

Due to matters beyond their control, I had to watch as two actors I had no affinity for struggled through Golden Pair, which became a doubles pairs song for some reason, and then watch in horror as Juuden Kanryou became a quartet, two of my most beloved 1st Cast songs, ruined. It should come as no surprise that 4th Cast was pretty much dead to me then. It didn't matter that it was hardly Toyoda's or Hamao's fault they had to sing those songs, or the rest of the cast's fault the songs became something far, far from what they had originally been. All that mattered was that I now had extremely unhappy memories associated with them.

My love for 5th cast isn't so much a true love for 5th cast as an overwhelming urge to get as far away as possible from the cast that ruined TeniMyu for me. And if you're thinking about judging me for it--think you YOUR most favorite song, sung by your favorite actor, and now imagine a younger, less attractive actor coming in, singing it badly, and then imagine 4 of those younger, less attractive actors making it a quartet about nothing special anymore.

It still burns me up today, and right about now I'm really getting the urge to start humming Ding Dong the Witch is Dead :P

But still...They were the first cast I ever saw live. My first TeniMyu ever, and I got to see a Dream Live! They were and always will be my official "first cast," because they were the cast that showed me what it was to stand in a huge arena with thousands of other girls and see the songs I'd spent the last few years singing to myself sung by professionals on stage.

They let me have the experience that, if I hadn't enjoyed then, would've been put off until months later (a year later, for a Dream Live)--standing in line for goods, that dokidoki right before the show starts, the sense of accomplishment when it all ends, and just seeing all these people within leaping-and-attacking distance (...not that I'd ever leap and attack >_> I'm more stealthy than that). For that, I thank them, and will miss that chapter of my life closing. I'll never have a first TeniMyu again, never have a first Dream Live again, and while the show itself left me less than amused, the experience was what was most important, and...well, they get to have that from me.

(sorry that part's so much shorter than my complaining above 8D;;;;)

So in conclusion, goodbye 4th cast, and congrats on finally getting to stand on your own, 5th cast. You're gonna need a whole hell of a lot of luck filling those shoes, but I will be right there at the front cheering you on. Don't feel like you need to emulate any of your sempai--I hope NO ONE ever does that, because how must it feel to be compared to all your predecessors and fall flat? Just be the best Seigaku you can be, that's all I ask for.

There were several things that I liked about 4th cast (though their GP was definitely not one of them) and it's always sad to see casts graduate. But, on the other hand, I'm excited to see what 5th cast will be able to do without another cast overshadowing them (though 5th cast has tons of Japanese fans already... It's damn Marvelous Entertainment shafting them that makes the English-speaking fans not as interested).

But yes, 4th cast's GP not withstanding (and their Inui, who I find just about as bad at acting as their Eiji), I liked them just fine. I honestly don't think they've ever had a better Tezuka than Watanabe Daisuke or a better Ryoma than Sakamoto Shougo. But, I'm still glad to be seeing the real start of 5th cast's myus as more than just the backup cast for 4th cast. ^_^ <3
