wheeee Japanese!
8 September 2006 01:06 pmYesterday's conversation was...interesting XD;;; It's been a while since I spoke to someone, especially in a "conversation" conversation environment, you know--with Masanori it was more little lessons, not an actual conversation with give and take on both parties' parts. Takashi was more of a "conversation" partner, which I really liked.
Johnson-sensei is really sweet, and she speaks English as well as any native speaker (though she does of course have a slight accent), plus she's a TEACHER (she majored in applied linguistics in college *___*) so that means she can actually pick out what I'm getting hung up on and helpfully correct me instead of just throwing something out there.
And that means I actually got my mistakes corrected XD Which were pretty frequent, because me and speaking do NOT get along ♥ I'm beautiful on paper and email, but tell me to open my mouth and be coherent and we have a problem ♥ I CAN speak, and can speak correctly, it just...messes up sometimes XD;; Anyways, I did enjoy the conversation. It wasn't Takashi, but it was a real Japanese person, so I'll make do :D
Plus, it's really interesting hearing her story--how she started learning English in school like everyone else, and like everyone else she hated it at first, but then she got a JET teacher (!!!!) and started to really be interested in the language, and then when that teacher went back to Canada where they were from, she went there for a homestay type thingee and the rest was history ♥ So she's been studying the language for twelve years now, GOOD ON HER. I'm halfway there... XD
Did some recon work on New Japanese Guy in class and realized that he's probably one of those kids whose parents immigrated here from Japan when he was really young, and just raised him here as a "normal" American (hence the name "Tom")--because sensei assures me he's a native speaker from Japan, and hearing his flawless English, this is the only way I can compromise that thought--no accent whatsoever. But perfect Japanese speaker too. And did I mention hot?
AND HE'S SHORT. I didn't notice it before, cause I'd only seen him sitting down, but I noticed him leaving the classroom today and he walked in front of me, and he was...not THAT much taller than me o_O Now, I'm "Tiny Tiny Court" as Nacchi puts it so eloquently--I'm SHORT. And this guy? SHORT.
...But he's still hot >_>
ANYWAYS. MORE GOOD NEWS!
We're getting ANOTHER conversation partner, loaned out from the Japan Club XD Our sensei explained it to us like this--Johnson-sensei will be our exposure to "proper" (aka super-polite) Japanese, the kind you're "supposed" to use and all that. Yutaka-san (ajsdhgsadjfhsgdfksd PRINCESS PRINCESS WHAT) will be himself. A Japanese Guy. TALKING LIKE A NORMAL JAPANESE GUY. OH MY GOD BE STILL MY BEATING HEART S,DFJKUHSDKFLUSIEIE
I want to meet him noooooowwwwwwwwwwwww. Please.
