Ok people, listen up, I know you were all SO WORRIED LAST NIGHT about us, we saw all your posts flailing about our absence after everything was resolved, but rest assured--

Since I know you're all curious, I'll elaborate. Yesterday, October 3rd, at approximately 5:30 PM, I was diligently slaving away on my latestoh_tuti entry--some Tuti, some *pnish*, lots of Mamo, it was a nice doozy. And of course it was in Notepad, because I prefer quick and dirty ^_~ for future reference. But anyways, I was translating away, and feeling miiiiighty hungry, but told myself I could have a nice unhealthy fastfood dinner AFTER I posted, so I cheered inwardly as I neared the finish of the post. Just a few more lines of Mamo, come on!
And of course that's when the lights dimmed and flickered, and my screen went dark. The lights didn't go OFF, just dimmed. So I glared at my CPU accusingly. "THIS is why people are always ranting about PCs. WHAT DID YOU DO TO MY APARTMENT?"
I tried to restart in vain, but the lights continued to flicker menacingly, and now I was pissed to boot since my hour's worth of work was gone forever. Angry, I went to my room to get my keys so I could go and get some food to soothe me, and the lights went a-flickerin' away still. Stepping outside, I noticed other residents, and one asked me if my lights were acting weird--it wasn't just me then, and I silently apologized to my computer.
Once out on the road, I realized it wasn't even just our apartment complex--the streetlights were going on and off, causing huge traffic jams, and when I pulled into Sonic to wait out the chaos with some cheese sticks and marinara sauce (mmmmmmmmm) I was turned away because they had no electricity. I decided to go back to the apartment then (much easier typed than done) and wait for KY, who has her own humorous tale to regale everyone with, and when she got home from work we went to Wal-Mart (yes, Nacchi, when disaster strikes America, WE ALL TAKE REFUGE AT WALMART) since it was on a stretch of road that still had power, and ate dinner at the SubWay inside. We picked up some candles while we were at it, and by the time we got back home, it was quite dark.
You know how creepy it is driving at night in the city when it's completely dark around you? No street lights, no traffic lights, no lights from stores? Let me tell you then--VERY CREEPY. And dangerous, since a couple of times I almost ran intersections because I forgot they were there XD;;;;
We managed to make it back to the apartment, though, and set up our candles while we read and periodically listened to the radio reports through my mp3 player that told us restoration of power (which had been caused by an explosion at a nearby power plant apparently and was affecting some 5 or so counties--imagine if it'd reached Houston, only an hour away o_O) would take "between 3 and 12 hours"
............thanks for that informative time span.
I studied by candlelight as well as I could before we got tired of being cut off from the outside world, and called up Jamie, telling her of our situation and to not fear and to please let everyone who was no doubt CLAMORING to know where we'd dropped off to know that we were alive. But Jamie didn't pick up, so we left a message ♥
After we hung up, I noted jokingly, "So, now that we've told someone, power will be up in 5 minutes, completely making it unnecessary."
You can guess what happened next ^_______^

ALSO -- any of you geeks out there know why my computer's stuck in a constant restart cycle now? It starts up, goes to some screen that tells me I shut it down wrong (hello, BLACKOUT) and asks how I want it to turn back on--Safe Mode, Safe Mode with Networking, Safe Mode with Command Prompt, Last Good Configuration, Normally--and I've tried pretty much all of them (not the networking or command prompt) and everytime it goes to the screen with the bar and windows logo, then restarts again.
