Book Rec Golden Week!
3 May 2011 04:19 pmIt's that time again! Time for me to gush about a great book I just read that you should read as well! :3
Up this week is: Counterpoint!
So, the genre is gay fantasy (high fantasy--you know, LOTR-esque fantasy). I have such a weakness for this genre, but more often than not, when it's slashy, it's this plot: two kingdoms at war, super soldier from one is captured by the other, becomes slave to other kingdom's prince/king/warlord, is raped repeatedly, rape turns to love (don't you love that trope -_-;), they live happily ever after.
I'm going to spoil it a little bit right here and tell you: that is so absolutely not what happens in Counterpoint :33333 And that made me so happy :DDD
The relationship build-up is slow, agnoizingly so at times, but it's thorough and there and believable and I am such a sucker for enemies become friends become more-than-friends, so this is a big deal for me <3333
The basic plot is that the human land of Farr Province and the elven lands are separated, quite happily so, and not exactly on good terms, so when the elven warrior Ayden trespasses into human lands to keep his little sister (who's secretly been sneaking across to care for a sick human friend) from being killed/captured by some soldiers, he winds up captured himself and the prisoner of the Crown Prince Freyrik. You can surmise how the rest of the book goes from there :3
It's quite a length, enjoyable read, and while I will advise you it ends on something of a cliffhanger, it's more of a segue into the next book in the series (due out in October), and you won't feel too disappointed or anything like that XD;
So yes, anyways! Go read Counterpoint! And let me know what you think :33333
