I really need to stop watching the news :| It just seems to be getting worse up north, and while I don't want to panic or anything, I also have to wonder if I'm not getting enough on edge. Tokyo seems to be moving along like normal, and I expect I'll go into work tomorrow like any Monday, but...will the reactors in Fukushima be OK? Who knows...

I have friends who are heading south, and I could do that as well, but it's expensive, and I don't want to leave and have it all be no big deal really (of course, wouldn't I rather be safe than sorry?). I have responsibilities, work that's due in the next couple of days, and well, it's all just confusing! I can imagine it's even worse not being IN Japan and having to rely in the international media, but I think I'm just going to hunker down and save energy, keep a bag packed just in case, and try not to let things get out of hand :)

Continuing to hope that everything works out okay without any major events...!

I hope Fukushima's power plant will calm down. :/

Are you worried that the results of a nuclear meltdown would hit Tokyo? Could you balance it by finishing up what needs to be done in the next couple of days and then heading south? How far south would you go, Osaka? There are some super cheap places to stay there. I just worry that if something does happen, there will be a mass Exodus that will be hard to navigate. This is all so freaky, especially because I used to live there. Stay safe!

Yeah, I'm mostly worried that like...if worse came to worse and I DID need to leave, it'd be too late. I plan on getting through tomorrow, judging the situation, and then heading out if it seems prudent. I'll go down to Shiga and stay with Meg, likely, so no worrying about finding a cheap place to stay or anything at least.

One coworker has already gone to Okayama, and my boss called me earlier this evening to ask about my plans and told me to gtfo if I thought it seemed the best course of action, as he was having trouble deciding as well. It made me feel better to have his "blessing" at least, and less like work >>>> life

Uh yeah ._. I really hope they're going to get that under control... reading the news is... really worrying, but at the same time I can't stop reading the same stuff over and over and over, hoping for something new and better...

And yes, being NOT in Japan right now is hell. If I could, I'd hop onto the next plane back just to be there and be able to actually talk to people.

I think the saying "better safe than sorry" was invented especially for cases like this... But that's easier said than done, just packing up and leaving is quite a big step after all.
Over here we're getting quite some mixed signals from the media, some experts say it'll be okay, some say a meltdown is imminent, so I really don't know :|

I've been following the news non-stop and it's really frightening. And I wish I could do anything besides donating money and hoping things don't get any worse than they already are.

Stay safe!

So far, at least in the Gunma area, there haven't been any suggestions for people to try moving more south, though I know that people within a 20km radius of the power plant have been evacuated. I kinda feel that unless they increase the size of the evacuation area, I won't get too worried, since we're a good 200km away from the power plants in Fukushima.

Hmm, it is an odd thing to have to consider, though, heading further south to avoid radiation. Let us know what you decide, if you do head out!

I'll see how things are tomorrow, but if there's no change and no indication of anything getting better, I may excuse myself to Shiga and hang with Meg for a couple of days :< Being in Tokyo at least feels uneasy just because there are sooo many people here, if ANYTHING happened it'd be horrific trying to get out.

Very true. Tokyo is such a mass of people that if evacuation became mandatory, I bet it wouldn't go very well. :X

Good luck, which ever way it goes!

I heard that Fukushima has released some radiation to depressurize the reactor, and they are using seawater to cool them. Apparently because of the wind, the radiation is expected to go towards the sea, and not affect Tokyo at all. I hope that's true :)
I found some advice for people living in Japan, though: http://www.japansubculture.com/2011/03/for-those-in-japan-protecting-yourself-from-nuclear-radiation-what-you-can-do/
Hope that helps :)

Please stay safe! ♥ The news we're getting over here is pretty scary, but hopefully it'll get better in the next few days...

Wow, I think I need to read more about this meltdown thing. :/ I mean, I understand the threat and all of that, but I guess I didn't realize how far-reaching it could potentially be? :(

That is really nice of your boss to give you the okay to go though... And I mean... I almost thing if there's no real solid reason to stay, I'd consider it sooner rather than later. Like you said, if something happened, trying to get out after the fact would be horrible. :/

*hugs* I really hope everything ends up being okay... *_*

Stay safe

I don't blame your mood of being anxious

US & BBC news on cable and satellite is beyond belief. The warning of an earthquake and after shocks is suppose to happen this week: Wed/Thurs (prediction) and the nuclear plant cool down has to be vented which is dangerous becuase the material is hazardous to breath and winds are predicted to hit Tokyo.

But also normality is returning to Tokyo>>>>>>>> but that was declared by FOX news.

If you can get somewhere else for a while go for it. And with a blessing from the boss..... Why not

I just got the emails from my travel agent that I will have to be re-scheduled for another flight to Tokyo; 2 weeks later. I was also suppose to start orientation in Shinjuku March 23. It looks more like it has been postponed til April. They are considering schedule changes, to go, or to stay, but are really debating about what to do.

It is better to be safe than sorry. The predictions happening are being compared to the devastation of World War 2. You better have some food and water in your in your bag.

Just be careful and don't be alone.... I hope everything works out.

I know we don't talk much, but I'm glad to see you're okay. I hope you stay safe! Right now one of my friends in Japan is not checking into her Facebook and we're all really worried. No one has been in contact with her since before the Earthquake hit and we're not really all too sure where she even was before that. So, it's really a relief to see you're okay. :)

watching news in the morning usually makes your whole day spoiled, and I'm not speaking about Japan, I mean all countries. We all are dreaded by the scenes.
