I LOVE WHEN MITSURU CATCHES THINGS I DON'T.

I'm convinced I only missed this because we were so far away >_> Or rather, I caught one tiny bit of it but GOD the full bit was amazing.

Some background: this was at senshuuraku, at the 2nd curtain call where Daiki asked Thane to give the final greetings (he was the only guest asked). When he started out, he blew everyone away by starting in fluent English, so of course no one could understand. Nagayan was right next to him and spazzing at the English, while 3-4 people away, Tuti was all superior. They then proceeded TO HAVE A FUCKING CONVERSATION, as follows:

[Thane talks in English]
Tuti: I'm probably the only one who'd understand it.
Nagayan: It's not like you understand it either!!
Tuti: I'm definitely the only one who'd understand it.
Nagayan: (muttering to himself) Why the hell do you feel like you have to repeat it?

GOOD GOD. THEY WERE THAT MARRIED ON STAGE. Just. FUCK. They crack me up so good ;_;

Totally random and not related to your post XD but I wanted to ask you: When you were studying Japanese (before you went to Japan or even now) how did you go about it? I've let mine slip so much and it's awful, and next year I'd like to take the JLPT for at least level 3 and start DOING something with my minor... but I'm having a hard time doing this without a class.

Any suggestions? D:

Well, have you taken any other language classes before? How familiar are you with grammatical terms? How logical a person are you (like, can you learn one rule, and extrapolate it to use in other contexts--Japanese verbs, adverbs, and adjectives are very closely connected, with similar rules being able to be applied to all. Logic helped me a TON :D)?

I learned the basics first--what nouns, verbs, and adjectives looked like, so that I could enable myself to make my own sentences rather than relying on example sentences. I didn't focus too much on writing, because that was boring to me and I was self-studying XD;

I used the hell out of these two books though:

http://www.amazon.com/Master-Basics-Japanese/dp/0812090462
http://www.amazon.com/Easy-Japanese-Jack-Seward/dp/0844284955/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258079908&sr=8-3

Particularly the second, for good example sentences to add to my repertoire.

I also watched a TON of anime to build up my vocabulary (subbed of course). It was through that that I twigged to the different ways of speaking and such, different pronouns and verb forms for different social situations, and understood those situations too. It's always risky self-studying by using anime because you might come out talking like an old man :(

Hopefully that helps some? :D

I took Spanish for four years in high school and studied Japanese for nearly four in college... and I teach English Language Arts XD so I'm very familiar with grammatical terms. I'm fairly good with logic I think. Once I get something it usually sticks and I can apply it across the board?

Thanks! I was looking for books that would help, I will definitely check those out :D
