So, I work for the 2nd largest pharmaceutical company in Japan. They're smart people, making all kinds of nifty drugs to help combat things from organ rejection to overactive bladders to fungal infections to Alzheimers, a pretty big company with big ideas.

Then today, they handed everyone tissue-box-sized boxes...of FACE MASKS.

FUCKING HELL, PEOPLE. Your face masks will not save you when the old drunk guy who just got in from Kyoto and is already pissed out of his skull breathes heavily all over you on the Yamanote in the morning. OKAY?? You're SCIENTISTS. YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS. Also not helping you: WASHING YOUR HANDS WITH WATER. AND GARGLING, WTF?

Take your hand. Stick it in your garbage can, rub it aaalllll around in there til you feel something sticky. Now bring it back out, and just run it under the faucet a little. There, all clean, right?? Stick it in your mouth now! I'm sure that good ol' H2O completely cleaned it, germs and all! There's certainly no need for something like SOAP.

God these people are so stupid sometimes. HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? A nation of hypochondriacs, and somehow none of them know basic hygienic practice??

In other news! I have been riding my bike like a maddog. Yesterday, I rode it the furthest yet, from my tiny apartment in Higashi-Shinjuku all the way up Meij-doori to DUN DUN DUUUUUN! IKEBUKURO!! Yup, Meiji-doori goes right past the East Exit, near Sunshine 60, and so I made the trek in under 30 min easily marking my turning-around-point at Theater Green BOX IN BOX, where KittyGuys had their show last year :D

The entire trip was incredibly easy and fast up until about Mejiro (both ways XD) when you hit a big hill XD;; I want to try Shibuya tonight, but I dunno...it's a good station further away than Ikebukuro, but we'll see!

*just shakes head* Oh, Japan....

The constant gargling in the sink (right next to my desk at one of schools...) drives me crazy. I wonder if spitting into the sink gets your germs out there even more for other people to possibly collect or anything. It would make sense to me if it did. Dear coworkers, cargle in your own private bathroom with Listerine or something, not with water repeatedly right next to people, if you would be so kind....

Agreed. Swine flu's hittin' Aichi next, and my teachers all point out that there are no masks left in the local pharmacies. Then I get 'the eye' when I say that I won't wear a mask unless I'm actually sick, and only THEN because I think sneezing into my hand is disgusting. It doesn't even sink in when I tell them that the masks aren't a proven defense against the flu, and that washing your hands and good hygiene is the best you can do. By the way, washing the hands? More people need to get on this. And toilet paper too. How can people brush their teeth and gargle with those dirty hands? I just can't understand it at all! Then again, I'm a real germaphob. I may not be into science, but I do know how to keep myself clean. >__>

I'll let the Japanese obsession with masks slide, since it's not hurting me any to wear one and it makes them feel better...

... But dammit, put some god damn soap in your restrooms because it's disgusting that they never have any. Especially in train stations. WTF? That's an easy way to start on this hygiene problem. And yeah, gargling, what? Water would do... like nothing? Buy mouthwash. D:

I'm leaving for Japan on Monday, and the school people told us we have to bring masks, and if we don't, they're not letting us on the plan so we get sent home. So today I went and bought the boxes of masks like wtf.

I don't see at all how it will help, but hey, whatever will allay fears, right? I mean so far the trip isn't cancelled and I hope its not, but blah. Craziness anyway.

Do you know where the Shinagawa Prince Hotel is? That's where we're staying while we're in Tokyo. :D

Ooh!! I do know where that is :D It's where they had NelFes last year (http://ameblo.jp/pnish-tuti/entry-10162901088.html), and where Tuti plays tennis (http://ameblo.jp/pnish-tuti/image-10218186886-10148159699.html) 8DDDD

How long are you going to be in Tokyo/Japan?? We could totally get together ^__^ A few of us are going to see KuroshitsujiMyu next weekend, so if you're free and into Kuroshitsuji, or just want to see a good myu, we can help you try to get tickets :D

Most stores are sold out of masks here >_< it's crazy. They only JUST got the first confirmed case in Tokyo, but it was only a matter of time.

laskdjf I might have to find the tennis courts and stalk them XD;;

We'll be in Japan for 2 weeks, but we're only in Tokyo from the 26th-29th, I think. D: I really wanted to see Kuroshitsuji too, but my teacher already said flat out we're not allowed to leave the group during "instruction" time. Even though I'm not taking a class >__>

After Tokyo we're going to Kanazawa, then Kyoto and Hiroshima. I went 2 years ago but I haaaaaad to go back again. ^__^

Aww, so you don't have any free time? That sucks :( We're not going until the 30th anyways >_<; I absolutely love Tokyo, and remember to keep an eye out for the boys :D Tuti's outta town right now, but he should be back the 28th :D Nagayan's filming, so I dunno when he'll be back though XD And of course, the rest of *pnish* too~ XD

I might have some free time at night. We only do so much during the day, then the two professors on the trip get tired and turn in LOL. Then we're up to our devices for the rest of the day. Though... I was told I'm an assistant so who knows what that means O__o;;

I shall keep an eye out for them! Though... I don't know *pnish* that well, only Tuti (from [livejournal.com profile] alleyquat) and MoriEiji.
