...How come there's no option now to view LJ in the old way?!
It still displays fine in IE7, but I tried Google Chrome and FF3 today and they all display in that horrible "updated" LJ style...and when I checked the viewing options, it wasn't even available o_O
When I look at the viewing options in IE7, NOTHING is checked...
WTF LJ??

Date: 2008-09-03 12:13 pm (UTC)ANYWAYS--the "old" way is the original LJ bar, with the default icon on the right, a small username, and the search box defaults to Site & User (on the "new" version it defaults to interest, I believe, and the usericon is on the left, and the username is in huge letters >_>)
For some reason it won't display the old way at ALL (like, it's not an option even) in FF3 or Chrome, and while it displays fine in IE7, there is still no option to check it (so if I changed, I could never go back).

Date: 2008-09-03 12:27 pm (UTC)IE doesn't like me, and by that, I mean it crashes on me all the time. so I prefer not to use it. I keep hearing things about IE8, but I'm not excited. This damn Vista OS will probably force me to upgrade to it (since it forced all of the other Microsoft updates on me) whenever it comes out, but I'm not seeing anything in IE8 that I don't already have in FF3 (except for the super-protected-spy mode where they don't track you or keep your cookies). Maybe it'll finally catch up to the other guys...

Date: 2008-09-03 12:33 pm (UTC)IE8's supposed to have one mode to view pages like FF3 and such, getting rid of all the extra code lower versions have--but the problem is that many sites compensate for IE quirks already, so then THOSE sites will render incorrectly, so IE8 will actually also allow you to view in either IE8 mode OR IE7, easing the transition until no one has to mess with the older version hangups anymore~
Then it'll simply be a matter of security (the private mode will be a big thing, Chrome has it too--and I'll bet you FF will put it on their next release too) and customizability, I'll bet, which admittedly FF has a leg-up there, but I don't imagine a company like Microsoft will let their marketshare fall too low before they try and do something about it :/

Date: 2008-09-03 12:57 pm (UTC)I was actually impressed that Chrome brought over all my FF3 bookmarks and passwords pretty easily. The transfer wasn't even worth it on IE. Perhaps IE can do more than I give it credit for, but at this point, I'm too tired of it to give it another chance. I have noticed some subtle improvements on the few times I head over there to update my

Date: 2008-09-03 01:04 pm (UTC)Chrome brought all my IE stuff over as well, though it is definitely a beta. It seems to render things more like FF than like IE, so we'll see how it works out. I installed FF on my Mac I use at work, because Safari is boring XD And it works really nicely there, but I just don't like the way it runs on my Windows machine; IE gives me a much smoother run, but I guess I'm one in a million XD
Why do you update your Japan LJ in IE?

Date: 2008-09-03 01:09 pm (UTC)I always update my Japan journal in IE because I like having saved passwords. I find it easier to use another browser and update rather than sign out in FF and then sign in under a new name. I don't use any fancy programs like Semagic to update; I go in and html code everything the old-fashioned way. Recently I've switched the Japan journal to Rich Text updating, but I don't really like that. I'm just a particular old fool, huh? :D
Btw, I've decided to come up next weekend, so if you have free time, let's hang out!

Date: 2008-09-07 07:51 pm (UTC)I don't even recall the 'old' way, tbh. I thought it was LJ updating their 'look'...? (I'm on FF, occasionally using IE for the few things FF doesn't like)
