Well, not woes, but tough-ish times, I guess?

I sent in an application to Berlitz (more a pre-app really) last week, and while I knew it was past the application deadline for this year, I figured I'd get SOME kind of response.

I did, and it was as I expected: 2008 apps will be accepted in mid-January. Unfortunately, that's for a Spring 08 start. And I need a Fall 08 start *headdesk*

There's also the issue of I need to know if I have that Fall 08 job by FEBRUARY 8TH. Which is not likely going to happen, because who wants to wait 6 months for someone who's pretty much a dime a dozen?

I'm going to be playing with fire, but it may come down to not renewing for JET and reapplying with these places in June/July. I hate that idea of possibly not having a job at all come August, but I'm really not ready to leave yet and even MORE not ready to give up on living in Tokyo.

I also sent in a questioning email to the Interac folks, and the Gaba folks, too. We'll see how those go, but I'm not holding my breath >_< It looks like if I want this I'll have to jump through more than my fair share of hoops...

What kind of places are these? More teaching jobs?

Yup, these are all places with offices in Tokyo, so I can move there ♥

Ahh, so you're trying to get out of JET? Is it just to be closer to Tokyo, or are there other factors, too? *curious*

Pretty much strictly to be closer to Tokyo :D Read: IN Tokyo. I love that place to pieces, and just...yeah, never gonna be satisfied til I'm there permanently :D

I love my job with JET, but the location...!

*nod* I totally understand. XD; If I get the job with Aeon, there's a chance I might have to wait longer to ship out to Japan in order to get placed in Tokyo, but I'm fully willing to do it. I need to be there. *__*

Better start saving your money honey! Honestly, JET pays you more than enough to hoard and save up to finance yourself. Really, if you started putting away money know, by the time your JET stint was up, you could have at least $5000-$12,000 saved up. The biggest problem I foresee is that apartments in Tokyo are expensive, and knowing you, I can't see you living in a guest house.

Moreover, you're a bit more valuable than the dime-a-dozen type. Those are the folks straight from their home countries, with no teaching experience. At least you have JET backing you up. Don't worry about it. The pivotal key in this equation is money, so if you can manage that, I don't see any reason to stress out. ^^

First off, just piping up to offer support of luck on the job front. Being without a job, totally not so much fun (been there, done that within the past year), but I have faith the gods of luck will continue to be with you, as they have been thus far.

Second, here's a pic I took with my digital camera. I'm organizing my... collection... and uploading pics to photobucket. I am still planning on scanning the cover and inside pages later, but have you ever seen at least the cover posted anywhere before?

BTW, totally love Daiki with the dark/black hair. MHO.

LOL! It's the stripes. I can't look at anyone wearing B&W stripes without thinking abut Nagayan.

And really, if that's the way you gotta go, isn't it a beautiful way? :)

I don't think finding a job in Tokyo will be that hard with your year of teaching experience plus a three year visa. You have a big advantage over people applying from home.

I have had an online friend who was in the same situation as you -- JET, based in Kansai, wanted to move to Tokyo, Fall etc etc etc. She was JLPT 3 when she arrived, JLPT 2 by the time she finished her year with JET, and she had no problem at all moving to Tokyo with... With... I forgot what company.

Anyway, I know you'll do well and hopefully you'll be able to get it! ^______________^
