Wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Densha_otoko) says it best :D
The rough summary is you have this shy, absolutely geeky otaku who stands up to a drunk guy harassing this beauty on the train one day. To thank him, the girl asks for his address and sends him a present (some fine Hermes china).
He doesn't know what to do--this beautiful woman has sent him an expensive gift, and he wants to get to know her, but has NO experience. So he hops on 2chan and gets help from, like, all of Japan XD He became kind of immortal on there, known only as "Densha Otoko" (Train Man).
It's based on a true-ish story (it hasn't been 100% authenticated) but it's SUPER famous. There are episodes on youtube, it's really cute 8D
And if that wasn't enough, they spoof it in the DL3 skits. The one of Kujirai and Shirota, where Shirota acts like a complete girl, and Kujirai wears his glasses--they're pretending to be Densha Otoko and Hermes-tan XD
OH, is THAT what it's all about!!! I get it now!!!! LOL!
Should totally do a parody. "You... wearing ridiculously fashionable gay outfit with threads still hanging off it, reading script for bad anime made into musical and constantly taking photos of yourself by phone. Me... hair sticking up in strange places, wearing gay pants looking gay, with huge forehead, resisting urge to smoke peche cigarette and possibly muttering to self. Would any friend of yours (possibly irritating) come forward and let me know who you are? Email ohtuti@tuti.com
