...Saitou is so gay. And he has good taste in men, too.
His name is Christopher Ho.
He's a model from Singapore I met 7 years ago in Paris.
And he is mute.
I first met him at the Francesco Smalto audtition.
My first impression of him was a dark one, like he was hiding something.
The next week, at the Smalto show held inside a little pavilion at Paris' Grand Circus,
I met him again, and was dumbfounded--
He had his long black hair styled like a super saiyan,
I thought he was someone else entirely.
One steadfast rule of the modeling industry
Is that from the moment your next job is decided until the show itself, you're not to change your image.
And he was surpassing that rule by far.
To me, he was like some new breed of person, so I tried talking to him.
"Where are you from?" [T/N: This, and everything they say to each other, is in English.]
But when I spoke, he took out a small notebook and scribbled in it with a pen, writing, "Singapore."
He couldn't hear anything I'd said--he was reading my lips.
Then he strained to push sound out through his throat, and asked me, "Where are you from?"
There were no words, but I understood perfectly.
'That's amazing...' I thought, and felt ashamed of myself--it's just an everyday thing to him.
"I'm from Japanese," I replied, and although I messed up he still understood the meaning. He laughed.
"Same Asia!" I added, and he laughed again.
I've forgotten what it was about, but after that we talked about a lot of things.
Playing that simple kind of catch-ball, I didn't think about anything before or after, simply focused on that moment alone.
I wonder if he's doing well now...
I'll bet he is.
