Japanese Japanese Japanese~!!
25 October 2006 02:52 amEeeee asdkfjahflskdjfshdlf TODAY WAS WAY TOO MUCH FUN ASLDIUAHSDLI
So, after getting my computer all prettified, 5ish rolled around and KY and I hightailed it up to the school to make it in time for my SI class, in which there wound up being 2 people + KY = 3 students YAY 2 more than I thought would come XD
We spent the whole hour going over noun qualifying clauses (these are called "relative clauses" in English; where you have something like, "The book I bought yesterday was good"--the noun "book" is 'qualified' by a sentence before it, which is how Japanese illustrates relative clauses) which by the end of it one of the guys understood, the other was probably still lost (but hopefully not as bad off >_>) and KY was sitting there yawning cause it was all old hat for her :P Bitch ♥ STOP INTERRUPTING ME IN CLASS *hits*
Then since we had just under 2 hours to kill, we went out to eat to On the Border (mmm nachos) and then headed home for 15ish minutes, then it was OFF to Coffee Station! Now, all I knew was that that's where it was going to be--I had no idea WHERE inside it would be, or who would come if anyone, nothing. So we got in, no Japanese in sight XD;;; We sat at the bar area for about 5 minutes, thinking we'd just wait and hope someone of the Asian persuasion came through the doors so we could follow them wherever XD
A guy came in a few moments later, and walked over to the stairs to the second floor, then came back and stood in line. I eyed him, because he was pretty dark skinned and dark haired, but didn't really look that Japanese to me, so I didn't think anything of it. Then thank goodness XD Johnson-sensei came in, and I wandered over to her XD After introducing KY to her while she waited in line for coffee, I asked her if the Conversation Table would be on the second floor, which it was, and she asked if I'd met the Japan Club president, Keita, yet.
She then pointed to the guy I'd pegged as a Latino XD 100% Japanese, Tokyo born and bred apparently ♥ In the end it wound up being six of us--me, KY, Johnson-sensei, Keita (the club President, and a devout user of "ore", which sent me into fits of giggles XDDDD), another non-Japanese guy who actually managed to hold his own in the conversation, and Harumi, the girl who I'd met in World Market who actually invited me.
When she first sat down, Harumi kind of looked at me funny, and asked me if we'd met before--I didn't realize who she was at first either. Then it hit me she was probably the one I'd met at work ♥
I was actually surprised at how well they all spoke English. When Takashi was my conversation partner, we conversed almost entirely in Japanese because his English wasn't very good at all, so I came to expect that of most of the international students, thinking Johnson-sensei was a fluke of some sort, but Harumi spoke even better than her it seemed, and Keita was having no trouble either *impressed* Course now I wanna get that good XD
I was really relieved, too, that the conversation was waged pretty bilingually, unlike our conversations for class. This was probably 60/40 Japanese to English, which let us follow some veins better, and interact more.
The girls (Harumi and Johnson-sensei) eventually suggested a Halloween party, and nominated Keita's place to hold it XD without his consent of course. Best thing ever hearing him all indignant going, "え?俺んちかよ?!" ("Huh? My place?!") and the girls just chorusing, "やろうやろう!" ("Let's do it, let's do it!")
Oohhhhoohohoho, but the CREME DE LA CREME, the BEST thing of the night, was when Keita asked me and KY for our email addresses so we could be put on the Japan Club list-serv. I tore off a piece of paper and wrote down mine, then handed it to KY, who passed it on to Keita after writing hers down. He asked about mine (utinam[@]gmail) and I gave the usual response--that it's from Latin, blahblah.
Then he sees KY's XD
If you can't imagine the hilarity here, hers is kooriyoukai[@]yahoo, which is all EMBARRASSING for her, since she made it back in the day when she was a POSER thinking she was all cool and using Japanese and crap XDDDD I'm CRACKING UP when he's asking her what the reason was behind her using it (it means 'ice demon' in Japanese btw) and she's all turning red and hiding her face. BEST PART OF THE NIGHT, HANDS DOWN.
sifhslifuhsidufs I can't wait to do it again XDDDDD
