Ok, so, you people as future loyal subjects of the be-all-end-all-TeniMyu site StrawberryWine.Org need to help me out here on a little thing I'm trying to decide on.

What should I put up for download? Scans I'd planned on. Rips I'd planned on (CDs), and torrents I'd planned on linking to.

But, for mostly moral reasons (....what're those? More-uhls?) now I kinda don't wanna put CDs up for download, at least not from my site directly. and uh I'd kinda wanted to make it a place Japanese people might come across too, and scans/rips? Noooot generally looked upon kindly there XD

But I don't want to have NOTHING up for download you know...so, suggestions? Maybe, as kooriyoukai suggested, a song-rotation slot? Or a request section? Every week put up some new random song from a myu? Or play it safe and not have any rips for download at all? Maybe I can put up some stuff that might be viewed as more 'fair game' *sigh* I dunno _o_

Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated, cause getting to talk more and more with these Japanese fangirls starts to make you feel like one of them XD;;;;; Something I'm not too sure I LIKE >_>

What about excerpts of the songs ? Like, one minute of each, for "evaluation purposes only".
Lots of official japanese sites do that also, so the fans wouldn't be scared :p

Song rotation isn't so bad. That way it's not exactly sharing, but the fans still get the music. Or you could have a song of the week that plays as the page opens. That could be annoying for 56k users though...

And aren't there scripts that allow non-US users to not be able to view a site? Like what they do for Toonami Jetstream? Maybe you could block off the download site to Japanese users, but have everything else available to them?

I think put a MP3 playlist (not downloadable) might be one solution. Or you can do a MP3 rotation, changing each week.

*nodnod* I'd planned to at least put up a full track-listing for every CD, and am toying with this "song of the week" idea too.

I think your decision should mostly depend on what you want the true purpose of the site to be. If this is a site to bring in new fans, then accessibility is more important, but if it's going to be mostly informational, a resource to have everything all in one place, and you don't want provide the downloads yourself, then maybe you could point people in the direction of the appropriate LJ communities (tenimedia, etc.) so that people could find stuff if they want to, but that way your site won't be liable, so to speak. It would be the same as pointing people in the direction of the torrents.

And hmm... I don't think there's any kind of media that the Japanese fans would consider fair game, right? XD; I'm sure you know more than me, but it seems like there will probably be people who feel all scans/media are unacceptable. And then it becomes an all-or-nothing type issue. And that seems like it could get complicated.

I think mostly it just depends on what kind of site you want it to be. *nodnod* I think you could easily provide all the information new fans would need to gain access to the soundtracks and myus, without actually having people direct download from your site. You could provide links to sites where they could download, and then links to where they can buy the items too. And that seems like it should be enough? Especially if you do song rotation too... *rambles* Those are my main thoughts though. ^_~
