Another movie post
26 September 2005 11:25 pmRoommate and I were in the room earlier this afternoon, each absorbed in our own little worlds, when out of the blue she tells me, "Oh! I got Battle Royale off of DC today!" (DC = DC++, filesharing program our school uses, and the BESTEST thing to ever happen to me) and I'm all, "...what"
So she proceeds to explain it to me. It's a Japanese movie--live action, not anime--set in some weird Japan where this law, the BR act (get it? BATTLE ROYALE. HAHA), has been passed, for some unknown reason I never understood. Also, the kids of the nation know nothing of this act apparently. The law dictates that, by lottery, one class of all the classes in all the schools in Japan is selected to be shipped off to a desert island. There, each child will be provided with food, water, a map, compass, and a weapon ('weapon' is used loosely. Some get only a pair of binoculars, or a pot lid, and others get scythes and machine guns). Then they're all set loose with radio transmitter collars on, and ordered to kill each other off in 3 days until only one is left living. If they fail to do so, they all get blown up by bombs in the collars, and if they try and remove the collars, they get blown up. It's one survivor or no survivors.
This...is THE GORIEST MOVIE I have ever seen. And it's awesome. Apparently it was never allowed to be released here (or just never picked up) because of the high gore factor--and it IS high. I watched while eating--big mistake. It's almost like watching some combination of Lord of the Flies and The Lottery except with 15-year-old Japanese kids. Subbed at last, it's an AWESOME watch.
The file's pretty big (700 mb), but it's definitely worth it, so someone IM me or crap and I'll send it. Watch it if only to see the chick who played Gogo Yubari in Kill Bill hack away at the crotch of a male schoolmate ♥

Date: 2005-09-27 05:00 am (UTC)I've heard of this movie; it's based off some supremely long manga, right? I never liked gory things because I'm allergic to blood, so there's little chance I'd ever watch this, but it's always fun to hear about!

Date: 2005-09-27 05:25 am (UTC)And there's a sequal: YES! SO getting that now *downloads* And cha, of course Tuti's orgasming! HE'S TUTI! OH TUTI! I think in that image he's getting way too excited/disturbed over someone (Eiji #1, Ichitaroh) sticking a breadstick in his ramen cup and saying, "It's the Golden pair!" He just kinda backs up against the wall with that expression and just SCREAMS. No, I dunno either. It's just Tuti, I don't ask.

Date: 2005-09-27 05:22 am (UTC)I heard about this long ago. Can't remember if it was a fic recommendation...or the basis for a Simpsons episode...hrmmm...anyway, I tried to download it for aaaaages (read: years) but it was too big. Send it to me? *bats eyelashes* calypso98@gmail.com
*Amusingly, this matches your mood icon. And reminds me of "Office Space."

Date: 2005-09-27 12:40 pm (UTC)I'll send it to you over AIM, if that's ok. YSI tends to time out with files over 50 mb for me for some reason :S

Date: 2005-09-27 03:36 pm (UTC)That's fine. YSI does the same to me for anything over about 200mb. I'll IM you when (if) I get home tonight.

Date: 2005-09-27 01:26 pm (UTC)BTW, the sequel suxx0rs. Not that I've seen it, of course. But the director from the first movie died after one scene, but I doubt that would have stopped the train wreck that that film became.
Anyway, read the novel or get the manga. Those have a way higher gore content than the movie. Hell, both of them makes the movie looks like child's play (especially the novel, much better ending).

Date: 2005-09-27 03:14 pm (UTC)Then again, if I had watched that first before reading the book, I might have given a bit more to that battle.
As to the ending, it was Beat Takeshi being Beat Takeshi. Crazy mofo he is.
