Mmmm...2 weeks til I head back to College Station, 2 more weeks to make summer money, 2 more weeks of freedom!

So, I figured yesterday that it might be prudent to go through my school email inbox, clean out old crap and the like, since it'd been a while since I ventured in and I knew there were tons of (hopefully un)important emails piling up. Delete, delete, delete, delete, del--what's this?

I subscribed last year to a mailing list out of Cornell University that sends out a list every two weeks of jobs related to birds around the country (cause I'm a nerd who wants to work with birds, of course!). It was through this that I learned about the summer job I took earlier, and every now and then I'll check it and see what's going on around the country and stuff.

So I came across the most recent email from that list sent out (July 24th) and scrolled down, cause I was at work and bored with nothing else to do. Lo and behold, this entry pops up:

GRADUATE RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIP (MS) is available starting Jan 2006 in
the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences, Texas A&M University,
College Station to study the distribution, abundance, and habitat
ecology of the northern goshawk and small forest owls in southern
Nevada. The work will involve intensive field work in rugged and remote
mountains during spring/summer 2006 and 2007. Requirements include a BS
in wildlife science, zoology, or a related field; several years of field
experience in avian ecology; and minimum 3.0 overall GPA and GRE scores
available. To apply, please email the following information as a single
attachment that includes your last name in the file name: letter of
interest that summarizes your qualification, coursework, GPA, and GREs;
resume; and the names and current email addresses and phone numbers of 4
references. Send this material to DR. MICHAEL L. MORRISON (EM:
mlmorrison@ag.tamu.edu).

RIGHT. IN. MY. OWN. BACK. YARD. Erm, well, schoolyard, at least. I plopped down an email to the prof explaining that although I couldn't really apply for the position, I was really interested in learning more about it, told him about my work this summer, and wanted to talk to him. Within a few hours, I got this email back:

Courtney: Thanks for your interest. Would be easiest to meet with you on
campus to discuss career opportunites and such (I always hire many
people in the summer). I will be on campus (Old Heep Bldg) starting end
of August--drop by (862-7667).

EEEEEE! SO ready to go back to school now kthxbye. It's awesome that there's someone doing a lot of the same stuff I'd like to be doing so near, so I intend to go and chat with him ASAP. This semester promises to be quite fun XD
